Although Blanche appears to be a normal women, her issues that have happened in her past have caught up to her to reveal that she isn't the "fancy lady" she is supposed to be. During the early 1900's women's status was very important and if a woman of a higher status where to be found committing adultery or prostitution, it was seen as a disgrace and highly controversial. Because Stella, Mich, Stanley and the other characters of the play find out who she is, they don't believe her when she says that Mich raped her. Andrea Serrano is a known for selecting highly controversial subject matters for his art. This art Ecce Homo, is a plastic model of what seems to be christ submerged in urine and bodily fluids. The message it conveys is that, something that looks so beautiful, can actually be judged as distasteful or offensive depending on how you look at it. Blanche is a perfect example of how this effect can take place. She appeared to be normal at the beginning of the play but it isnt until people get a closer look at her past, that the inner parts of her begin to show.
